We were able to drain the fluid and impose a temporary shunt. This is one of the most common neurologic problems that happen in pre-term babies. This happens because the brain of the premature infant lacks the ability to auto-regulate cerebral blood pressure. This caused bleeding into the subependymal germinal matrix.
In this case, we installed a shunt to redirect the excess flow of blood and relieve the pressure. This shunt will remain as long as it keeps working. As soon as there is a block in the shunt, we will remove it. After the procedure, as of 9th October 2022, the baby has responded positively and has been crying well. The food intake for the baby is also improving.
