Olfactory Groove Meningioma | Case Study – Dr Sambuddha Dhar

We recently treated a patient with olfactory groove meningioma. olfactory groove meningioma is a tumor that grows between the brow and the nose in the front part of the skull. While in most cases, it can be benign, if left undiagnosed, it can grow to become severely disabling and in some cases life-threatening.

In our case, the patient complained of Anosmia (Loss of Sense of Smell) which was caused as a result of this. MRI scans showed a 6cm tumor over the olfactory nerve and below the frontal lobe. Once the tumor actually incites a disability, we no longer treat it as benign and as such I recommended surgery to remove the tumor. We were able to perform a total removal of the tumor, following which we performed a proper cleaning of the area. As of now, the patient is responding well to the treatment.
